Product Highlight: E75 Calf Compression Sleeves
Our product highlight series covers our E75 line of compression sportswear. These educational posts will give you a better idea of all the compression options that we carry, as well as recommended usages for each option. This week, we’ll be highlighting Enerskin’s Calf Compression Sleeves.
Picture this - you’re training for a race and progressing well with the extra mileage. However, after a particular run, you notice some pain in your calf area. The pain goes away after icing, but then comes back during the next run. You could be experiencing a soleus muscle injury.
What Is a Soleus Muscle Injury?
Your soleus muscle is a long, pancake-like muscle that runs between your heel to the back of your knee. It helps your feet push off from the ground while running and provides the support needed for long-distance running. The soleus also helps pump blood to your lower leg, so any injury to it slows blood flow to your foot and ankle.
Overuse injuries of the soleus muscle can occur among runners and are typically experienced as dull pain persisting over time. More commonly, these injuries develop after long-distance or uphill running, when the soleus gets overworked with inadequate warm-ups and recovery. In addition to the typical preventative and treatment options, we’ll highlight a supplementary aid in the next section - calf compression sleeves.
An Introduction to Calf Compression Sleeves
Calf compression sleeves are worn around the lower part of your legs to provide compression and support. They typically go in the area below your knees to just above your ankles. They’re designed for optimal protection against muscle oscillation, micro-tears, and damage that occurs to your lower-leg muscles and fascia during training. They also help with recovery when worn after exercise.
These sleeves are typically sold in pairs unless otherwise stated, and we do recommend wearing them as a pair so you keep the body in balance and don’t end up overcompensating one leg.
Wearing Calf Compression Sleeves
While they’re not a cure-all, calf compression sleeves may help as you slowly get back into training after treating soleus overuse injuries. Graduated compression zones in the sleeves increase circulation and reduce lactic acid buildup to reduce soreness and inflammation.
Better yet, calf compression sleeves are an excellent tool in preventing lower leg injuries in the first place. Along with proper warm-ups and cool-downs, sensible training, and recovery periods, they will help you reach your training goals injury-free.
E75 Calf Compression Sleeve Set
Enerskin’s E75 Calf Compression Sleeves are top-quality compression sleeves that provide targeted compression and support to the calf, tibialis anterior, and Achilles tendon.
The E75 Calf Compression Sleeves are composed of 65% nylon and 35% spandex. Our revolutionary Enerflex fabric was carefully tested and developed to provide the exceptional hold of professional-grade, graduated (30-20 mmHg) compression with superior comfort even during the hardest workouts.
We use a patented silicone printing technology that allows for multiple layers of silicone tape to be printed directly onto the compression fabric. The integrated tape increases the level of compression - up to 200% more than typical compression gear - and prevents the fabric from overstretching, so compression never diminishes.
The silicone muscle mapping also wraps around the soleus to support the calf and Achilles tendon. The Germanium and compression aid in circulation and help warm the muscles for use faster than using nothing at all.
Closing Thoughts
While injuries are a common and unfortunate part of an athletic activity, with proper training and good gear, you can reduce the frequency and even prevent them from taking place. Enerskin is proud to support all the athletes out there with the latest and greatest in compression sportswear. We put our money where our mouth is and have backed up our products with the highest quality materials and research since day one so that you can train better and have fun doing it!
